Having problems in your College Algebra course?

You should speak to your professor immediately!  Ask for help!  Do not wait until the end of the semester!

Contact the Learning Resource Center:
Find out when tutoring in College Algebra is offered.  The Learning Resource Center is located in Bradley Hall.  The phone number is (973) 353-5608.  There is no fee for this service.

Ask to be transferred to College Algebra Intensive (21:640:112):
This course meets three times per week.  It moves at a slower pace than College Algebra (21&62:640:113) but covers the same materials.  If you would like to switch from College Algebra to College Algebra Intensive, please come to the Math Dept, Smith Hall, Room 216.

Re-take the Placement Exam:
Retake the Placement Exam to see whether or not you need to take a developmental math course.  The Placement Exam is given several times throughout each semester.  Information about  this exam is posted in the hallway outside the Math Dept, Smith Hall, Room 216.   Exam information, dates, and  times, are also posted on this web site. (click here)  The Placement Exam takes one hour to complete.

Failed your College Algebra Course?  Here’s what you can do:
Repeat the course.  Once you have passed the course, the “F” grade will be removed from your cumulative average, and the new passing grade will be calculated in your average.  Please note, the “F” grade as well as the passing grade will appear on your permanent transcripts.  If you do decide to repeat the course, you will have to pay tuition again.

PROFICIENCY EXAM:
If you have failed your College Algebra course you may take the Proficiency Exam. The Proficiency Exam is offered several times throughout each semester.  The exam takes three hours and is the equivalent of a College Algebra final exam.  A sample exam with answer key is available in the hallway outside the Math Dept, Smith Hall,  Room 216. Exam information is also available on this web site (click here)  If you pass the Proficiency Exam, you will satisfy the Rutgers University math requirement. 

Please note:  no credit hours are given for the Proficiency Exam.  You must have 124 credits to graduate.
