Important Calculus Information
Precalculus (21&62:640:114):
This course is intended for students majoring in computer science, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, or geology who plan to enroll in Calculus (21&62:640:135). The prerequisite for this course is College Algebra (21&62:640:113) or College Algebra Intensive (21&62:640:112) or placement by examination (Placement Exam.) The course covers algebraic, rational, trigonometric, logarithmic and exponential functions, inverse functions, and solutions of nonlinear inequalities.
Basic Calculus (21&62:640:119):
This course is intended for students majoring in information systems, business, social science, or liberal arts. CREDIT IS NOT GIVEN FOR BOTH BASIC CALCULUS AND CALCULUS I. The prerequisite for this course is College Algebra (21&62:640:113) or College Algebra Intensive (21&62:640:112) or placement by examination (Placement Exam.) The course covers an intuitive approach to calculus, with emphasis on applications, differential and integral calculus, multivariable calculus, and algebraic techniques.
Calculus I (21&62:640:135):
This course is intended for students majoring in computer science, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics or geology. CREDIT IS NOT GIVEN FOR BOTH BASIC CALCULUS AND CALCULUS I. The prerequisite for this course is Precalculus (21&62:640:114) or placement by examination (Placement Exam.) The course covers an introduction to analytic geometry, inequalities, functions, limits, continuity, differentiation of functions, applications, and introduction to integration.
